Looking for some books to read this October? This is my October TBR to give you some ideas! There's a range of genres to choose from so hopefully you'll find something that suits you!
Due to Blogtober taking up so much time this month, I probably won't complete my October TBR this year. So, if not, they'll be added to my ongoing TBR, exceeding 200 books now, yayy!
But I do hope to at least read a couple!

Anxious People - Fredrik Backman

An attempted robbery has developed into a hostage situation, and eight anxious people are trapped inside. As the tension builds, the eight strangers begin opening up to one another and deep secrets are revealed. Once they're surrounded by police, the robber doesn't have long to decide on his next steps...
I've heard many positive things about this book, many people have mentioned that it's emotional, funny and heart-wrenching.
Historical Fiction / Mystery
The Silk House - Kayte Nunn

A gothic mystery split with a dual timeline. In present day, history teacher Thea Rust arrives at a boarding school to find that she must look after the first intake of girls in its 150 year history, and finds that she has to stay with them in Silk House. In 1700s Oxleigh, silk merchant Rowan Caswell is thrust into a dangerous world, and in 1700s London, Mary-Louise Stephenson (hopeful silk designer) brings fabric with a pattern of deadly plants that have consequences for all who live in the silk house.
Okay, maybe the synopsis isn't the best - it's difficult to write one for a book you haven't read yet! Yet those who have already read it mention witches and hauntings - so it's one for supernatural fans!
The Devil and the Dark Water - Stuart Turton 1st October 2020, UK
Set in 1634, Samuel Pipps, the world's greatest detective is transported to Amsterdam to be executed. Travelling with him is his loyal bodyguard named Arent Hayes. Yet shortly after their ship is out to sea, strange symbols appear on the sails, livestock is slaughter and passengers are marked for death. With Pipps imprisoned, it's up to Arent to solve the mystery that now threatens to kill everyone on board.
A cursed ship and a mysterious warning... yes please!
The Once and Future Witches - Alix E. Harrow 15th October 2020, UK
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, but now witching is just tidy charms. But when the three Eastwood sisters join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.
I immediately fell in love with Alix E. Harrow's writing after reading The Ten Thousand Doors of January. Hopefully this book will be just as good!
Mystery / Thriller
The Searcher - Tana French 5th November 2020, UK
Retired detective Cal Hooper moves to a remote village to build a new life, yet once there, a local boy comes to him for help. The boy states that his brother has gone missing and can't find anyone in the village to help. Although Cal doesn't want anything to do with it, he can't make himself walk away - yet he soon discovers that even in remote villages, things aren't always as they seem...
This mystery sounds perfect for the lovers of crime and detective books! Released early next month!
One by One - Ruth Ware 12th November 2020, UK
A group of co-workers are snowed in in a ski resort, and when a billion dollar deal is at risk - tensions are running high. One board member goes missing, and no one knows who they can trust.
I've also read a lot of positive reviews for this one, it seems to be everywhere! I'm already intrigued by this one, and hoping to read it soon! But there's a bit of a wait yet for UK readers!
Classics
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier 1938
Maurier's book follows the narrator, an unnamed young woman who marries a wealthy widower named George Maxim de Winter. Mrs Danvers, the housekeeper, disagrees with their marriage and argues that Rebecca (George's first wife) is more beautiful and charming that the unnamed narrator. The housekeeper tries to encourage the narrator to commit suicide, yet she is disrupted when Rebecca's body is found on a shipwreck. A few twists and turns reveal secrets and hidden truths.
Okay, you caught me! I'm sneaking a Classic into here! This book is also a mystery/thriller, and with the film being released soon, now's the perfect time to give this one a try! If you're looking for more classics to read, yesterday's post is for you!
