Blogging With A Mental Illness

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

Good evening all,

Today’s post is me rambling a little bit on blogging with mental illness.

As I’ve mentioned a few times, I started the ‘Mental Health’ side of my blog to give myself a space to vent about my thoughts, share positivity and hopefully to raise awareness and understanding of mental illness.

Although, it isn’t easy. I often struggle with depression and the numerous symptoms it brings. Some days, it can be incredibly difficult for me to get up out of bed, and bring myself to wash in a morning. Eating, getting into a regular sleeping routine, finding motivation to keep the house tidy, socialise, etc. can all be really difficult tasks for someone with depression.

Add a full-time job and blogging to that, and some days it can become overwhelming. I made it one of my New Years Resolutions this year to try and ensure my blog posts are prepared in advance so I have something new to post every Monday – and I’m glad to say that the majority of the time, I have managed this.

So anyway, here’s a couple of my tips of how to stay on top of blogging with mental illness:

1. Plan Ahead – I like to plan my blog posts a month or so ahead, so I can have an idea of what I need to do before then and schedule my time around it.

2. Be Prepared – If you find yourself starting to slip back into your illness, try to spend a little time each day where possible working on your blog. If you’re having a ‘good day’, write your post while you’re in a good mood and then you can save and schedule it so it’s ready to publish at a later date.

3. Motivation – I like to remind myself of why I blog and produce pretty colour-coded plans and tick them off once I’ve published a post, gained followers, etc. Sometimes a little motivation can go a long way!

4. Take a Break – I have taken breaks from blogging on days (or weeks!) when I feel my mental illness is getting worse and there’s no shame in that. Your health comes first.

I hope these tips helped you!

Take care, Sophie x
