Autumn Self Care Ideas - Blogtober Day Seven, 2020

Looking for some autumn themed self care activities? Well, you're in the right place! I love the autumn season, but with the winter months comes the cold and flu viruses (not to mention the coronavirus!) which is why it's even more important to take care of yourself.

Why is Self Care Important?

Self care is beneficial to both physical and mental wellbeing, and hopefully these self care activities will help to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve your productivity and wellbeing in the long run!

Taking good care of yourself is always important, and in the colder months it can feel extra cosy to take time for yourself. Wrapping up in warm blankets and drinking hot drinks while curled up on the sofa, yes please! It's all the best bits of taking a sick day, when you're well!

Autumn/Fall is the perfect time to look back and reflect on the year we've had (and what a year!) and begin to slow down and take time for yourself. As the mornings and evenings are getting darker, and the weather is getting colder, it can be difficult to feel motivated. It can be especially difficult for those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and the darker days can bring low mood and depression. Self care can help the symptoms of depression and improve your mood.

Not to forget that it's the perfect excuse to get all curled up under a cosy blanket!

Seasonal Self Care Ideas

Here's my list of autumn/fall themed self care activities for your physical, mental and emotional health.

Admire the Changes of the Season If you're like me, then you'll love the changes of Autumn! It's easily my favourite season, and that's why I've somehow prepared for 31 days of Blogtober! So it's important to take the time to appreciate the changes of the season, to admire the leaves changing colour and to embrace the cooler weather.

Make sure that you spend some spend admiring the changes of Autumn/Fall and to appreciate what's around you. One of my favourite ways to celebrate Autumn is to go for a morning walk while it's still chilly yet fresh, and step on all of the crisp leaves that crunch as you walk!

Autumn Baking

I really enjoy the tastes and foods of Autumn! Home baking and delicious hot drinks are all the range! There's something so satisfying about holding a warm cup of hot choc on a cold Autumnal evening. Fill your home with the smells of cinnamon, apple and spices to make delicious soups, breads and pies - you could even treat yourself to a toffee apple.

Sweet Scents...

I adore scented candles, and the best ones start coming in at this time of year! Sweet pumpkin, apple and pecan scents smell SO good and just instantly give all the feels! I love candles all year round, but they feel extra cosy for those darker evenings and smell amazing. They help to create a cosy, calming atmosphere so you can't help but feel relaxed. Candles and a good long soak in the bath are the perfect cosy combo!

Bring out the Décor

It's the time of the year where you can let your creativity flow! Decorate the house with warmer colours and autumnal décor. Add cute pumpkins dotted around the house, and carve your own too! You could even make your own autumnal wreath to hang on the door!

My bank account always suffers this time of year because I like to go FULL ON with the décor! I just can't walk away from those teeny little décor items! Fairy lights and soft comfy cushions all the way!

Here Comes The Cold...

This is it. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE part of Autumn! The chance to wear those warm knitted jumpers, the long wintery coats and the extra fluffy socks! My wardrobe is jam-packed with goodies in the Autumn and is full to bursting with those warm oranges and mustard colours! Wrap yourself up warm this Autumn, I often feel better when all snuggled up warm and cosy.

Make Time for Gratitude

As mentioned earlier, I like to think of Autumn as a time for reflection. This year especially! After everything we've all been through as a result of coronavirus and lockdown, it really makes you appreciate and take gratitude in the little things in life - and the people too! It's important to not take anything for granted and to always be grateful for what and who is around you.

Starting a gratitude journal can be beneficial for your mental health and help you to appreciate your surroundings. You could even add an Autumn-themed twist and decorate it with Autumn colours and press leaves into the pages!
