How to Find Time to Read as a Full-Time Worker

And the award for 'The Longest Title' goes to... :P

Happy Monday, I hope you've had a wonderful week! As you may know, I work full-time within the care industry and this means that I juggle blogging, reading and working 13-hour shifts - which can be exhausting! However, I have no regrets about starting this blog as I can't begin to explain how much this blog has helped my mental health! Because of this blog, my mind is always active and constantly acts a distraction from my negative thoughts.

Yet, that doesn't mean to say that juggling it all is easy. There are still days where I struggle, and I'm always open about this on my Twitter feed. There are times when I may have to skip a week from blogging to give my mental health a break, yet I am so glad that I have this blog to put my voice out there and to continue to work on something that I love.

Anyway, I thought I'd tell you all a little on how I manage to read despite the long working hours, here goes:

Journey Time

It takes me a little over an hour to get to work on the bus, plenty of time to get some reading done. I like to take my Kindle along with me and read as much as I can - yet this has made me miss my stop a couple of times!

Breaks

I don't have long for breaks at work, but with a lunch break of thirty minutes there's some time to read. My favourite thing to do is take my Kindle or book along to the staff canteen, find a quiet spot and settle down. Some days I choose to sit with colleagues and chat instead, to appear 'normal' and hide my bookish obsession! ;)

Evening Down-Time

I arrive late from work, around 21:00 - 21:30. I should go straight to bed, ready for the next day's early start. Yet after a long shift, I need time to relax with a book in one hand and a drink in the other! On a good day, I average around another thirty minutes to an hour of extra reading time before bed.

Days Off!

Ahh, these precious days are brilliant for reading! On average, I can manage maybe three to four hours of reading on my days off. I aim for more yet the housework won't do itself!

I hope you enjoyed this post, and despite the juggling of work and home, I really do love the blogging community and I'm very grateful for this every single day. Every single interaction, whether that's a comment, 'like' or a mention through this blog or social media, means so much to me. You have helped to give me purpose and to push away that dark cloud named depression. Thank you.

How do you find time to read?

Take care,

Sophie x
