A-Spec August TBR

Hello August!

Today's an exciting day, as I'm starting a reading challenge! Imi and Ellie from Beyond a Bookshelf are hosting the 'A-Spec August' challenge, which helps brings a-spec books to the forefront and raises awareness of a-spec identities .

As I identify as asexual , I chose to take part in this challenge to help promote and raise awareness. For those who don't know, 'A-spec' is an umbrella term for all identities on the asexual and aromatic spectrum. You can read more about their challenge here. There's different challenges, including a photo challenge for Instagram and even a giveaway!

Here's my TBR for A-Spec August:

An A-Spec Book From Your Own TBR

Loveless ~ Alice Oseman

Released only last month, Loveless has already been named No.1 best seller on Amazon! It follows Georgia who has just started university and is looking for love, yet questions her identity once she learns of asexuality. A highly anticipated book that I just can't wait to get started with!

An A-Spec Contemporary, Historical and/or Romance

Rick ~ Alex Gino

This book is about Rick and his experiences at the Rainbow Spectrum Club at school (that's such a cute name!), where children of many genders and identities congregate and give Rick the opportunity to explore and understand his identity.

An A-Spec Sci-Fi or Fantasy

Beyond the Black Door ~ A.M. Strickland

Kamai and her mother are Soulwalkers, they can step into other people’s souls while they sleep. But in the souls that Kamai visits, she sees the black door. Her mother told her to never open it, yet when tragedy strikes, she is forced to go against her. This book is about coming to terms with asexuality, and is filled with dark fantasy. This sounds incredible!

An A-Spec Own Voices Book

Daughter of the Burning City ~ Amanda Foody

In the travelling Gomorrah Festival, Sorina is the only illusion-worker who can create lifelike illusions that others can see and touch to make up the Festival's Freak Show. Well, they were thought to be illusions... until one of them is murdered. Sorina must track down the culprit and discover how they killed someone who doesn't actually exist. Again, another amazing read!

There's not too many on my TBR for this challenge, but it's enough for me. I'm SO excited to get started! Let me know if you're taking part in A-Spec August in the comments down below, and if you're stuck for ideas Imi and Ellie have provided a fantastic master list of books which I highly recommend.

If you enjoy A-Spec books, you may be also be interested in reading my review of Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman which I read for LGBTQ+ Month.

What's on your TBR?

Take care, Sophie x
